This plan for St. Peter’s Basilica was drawn up by Donato Bramante, over top of the plans from the ancient basilica which he was replacing. Commissioned by Cardinal Giuliano Della Rovere, who later became Julius II, this job was perhaps the biggest of Bramante’s life, as the basilica is one of the most recognizable Italian structures to survive today.
